Lucas Paquetá, the Brazilian midfielder, has addressed the betting allegations for the first time, showing his annoyance at the inaccurate media coverage related to the situation. The West Ham player is currently being investigated by the English Football Association (FA) for supposedly breaching betting regulations during Premier League games.
The claims suggest that Paquetá attempted to gain yellow cards in four different matches to manipulate the betting market. These events, occurring between November 2022 and August 2023, are being examined following assertions that certain people took advantage of his actions for profit.
Paquetá Refutes the Allegations
In a statement shared on his social media platform, Paquetá categorically rejected the allegations and expressed worry about what he describes as “misleading and incorrect press articles” that have appeared in both the UK and Brazil. He pointed out that some of the information being circulated is completely untrue and questioned how sensitive details regarding his case have been disclosed.
Misleading Media Coverage
“I feel frustrated and upset after reading recent misleading and incorrect press articles… Some of that information is completely false and seems aimed at undermining my stance,” Paquetá stated on his X account (previously known as Twitter). He also mentioned that the ongoing leaks are jeopardizing his right to a fair trial.
Upcoming Testimony in Brazil
Paquetá is set to appear before Brazil’s Sports Betting CPI through a video conference later this month. His legal representatives have already asked the FA to look into how confidential information has gotten to the media. As the inquiry proceeds, Paquetá is focused on proving his innocence and highlighted the significant effect this situation is having on him and his family.
