GambleAware has shared its report on donations for the first quarter of the 2024/25 financial year. From April to June 2024, the organization received £294,722.99 (about $388,000) in donations for research, prevention, and treatment.
The Results Match Recent Years
GambleAware, which gets its funding from donations by the gaming industry, said that this year’s funding matches what it has received over the past four years. The British charity noted that smaller donations in the first quarter and larger ones in the fourth quarter have been a regular pattern in recent years.
In the first quarter, GambleAware also got £40,000 from regulatory settlements. This funding comes from final payments agreed upon between the commission and one operator, following the Statement of Principles.

The Statutory Levy is Coming
GambleAware noted that the 2024/25 fiscal year will likely be the last time it receives direct donations from the gambling industry. Although this voluntary donation method has worked reasonably well, it raised concerns about the charity’s reliance on gambling operators. To address this, the Gambling Act white paper suggested a new statutory levy system. Under this system, operators would need to give a small portion of their revenue to the charity.
GambleAware welcomed this change and believes it could be good for the sector. However, GambleAware has asked for continued funding during the transition period to make sure that RET services remain unaffected.
Zoe Osmond, the CEO of GambleAware, said:
“This is anticipated to be the final year of the voluntary donation system, before moving on to a system with a statutory levy. As we transition to the new system it is essential that funding is maintained at the same level as previous years to ensure there is no disruption to prevention and treatment services for gambling harm.”
